Hear how an interconnected systems approach can improve urban resilience and prosperity.
Presented by Adrian McGregor, Founder and Chief Design Officer (CDO) at McGregor Coxall.
Biourbanism presents a shift in urban thinking, reframing cities as human-modified forms of nature. This systems-based model, developed through 15 years of research and practical application, integrates ten interconnected systems: five bio systems (citizens, food, landscape, waste, water) and five urban systems (economy, energy, infrastructure, mobility, technology). As cities generate over 75% of global greenhouse emissions, this framework offers a practical approach to urban resilience and decarbonization.
The model leverages digital twin technology and AI to predict and respond to climate impacts, enabling cities to create comprehensive Resilience Action Plans. Through computational design and system mapping, Biourbanism helps city leaders identify vulnerabilities, set targets, and implement priority initiatives. This approach has been validated through the design of two new cities, demonstrating how urban environments can adapt to climate challenges while fostering prosperity and sustainability.
