About the Workshop

Learn valuable skills for writing artist statements in short and long formats. By using art decoding language and following a few basic guidelines to create clear and concise statements that can be easily understood by a variety of audiences.

About the Facilitator

Kathy Mackey is a Gold Coast multidisciplinary artist who works across photography, video, installation, and community-based practices and is particularly interested in the sites and behaviours associated with leisure.settings.

Kathy has been the recipient of several awards and fellowships including the 2015 Queensland Smithsonian Fellowship, Washington DC, winner of the Bowness Photography Award, Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne, 2006 and winner of the Gold Coast City Art Prize – Parks Victoria Residency 1999.

Kathy is a participant of the City of Gold Coast Generate GC program from 2021 to 2023. And most recently was one of the commissioned artists for the Gold Coast Triennial 2024/2025, HOTA Gallery, where she created a captivating large-scale multi-channel video installation.

Other Important Information

  • Participants are asked to bring images of their artwork on phone.
  • The workshop will be held at Broadbeach Community Space located within the Broadbeach Cultural Precinct across the road from Pacific Fair Shopping Centre.
  • We ask that you please arrive at 5:45 (15 minutes) prior to to start time of 6pm to allow enough time to sign in beforehand.
  • Don't forget to bring a notebook and pen or laptop/tablet.
  • Bring a jumper as the room can get chilly!
  • Snacks and light refreshments will be provided.
